HC

HC (Hydrocarbons) are organic compounds consisting solely of hydrogen and carbon atoms. In the environment, the most concerning Hydrocarbons are Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which readily evaporate at room temperature. HC is released as a major air pollutant from sources like uncombusted vehicle emissions, gasoline evaporation, and industrial solvents. Expressed in ppm, HC is a primary precursor in atmospheric chemical reactions that generate ground-level Ozone (smog). Furthermore, certain HCs pose carcinogenic risks. Monitoring and controlling HC emissions are crucial steps in air quality strategies to reduce the formation of photochemical smog and minimize public health risks.
