NO2

NO2 (Nitrogen Dioxide) is a reddish-brown, toxic gas with a sharp, pungent odor. This gas is a major air pollutant massively generated primarily by the combustion of fossil fuels at high temperatures, such as in motor vehicle engines, power generation facilities, and industrial heaters. Expressed in ppm or ppb, NO2 is not only harmful to the human respiratory system—causing irritation and aggravating asthma—but it also plays a central role in the formation of other pollutants. NO2 is a key precursor to the formation of smog and acid rain. NO2 measurement is a vital indicator for assessing the impact of traffic and industrial emissions, and it is a major focus in urban air quality control strategies.
